Once again Shane Black proves to be a dab hand at both penning scripts and shooting flicks. The Nice Guys is a bright and colourful buddy comedy that wades through some dark themes but still comes out smelling of roses.
A surprisingly underwhelming horror, IT almost redeems itself by being an enjoyable coming-of-age film. Almost.
It’s barely been two weeks since season seven of Game of Thrones aired and there are already some wild theories doing the rounds for the next season. It’s an agonisingly long wait for season eight so no doubt there will be even more crazy theories surfacing in the coming months.
Of all the outlandish fan theories being bandied about at the minute, there are a few that feel entirely plausible. Here’s an assortment of Thrones predictions that I personally think will come true.

Just when you think you know what you’re in for, Drive shifts gear on you and gives you something completely unexpected. Something you didn’t even know you wanted. Something better. Here is a super-stylised visual treat from Nicolas Winding Refn, the same director who turned Tom Hardy into Bronson.
Just a quick update for you all today. As this post goes live I’ll be well on my way to the Lake District with my family. We’re staying over there for a week which means that I won’t be as active on here as I’d like.
I’ll try to keep up to date with everybody’s posts while I’m away, but any writing will have to wait until I’m back in front of my keyboard. Writing anything on a Kindle is an absolute ball-ache!
I originally wanted to churn out a game backlog update this week but a four-day training course for work and last minute preparations for the holiday have completely monopolised my time.
I do have a review for Drive written up and ready to go from last week, but I decided to save that for next Friday and write this quick update for you instead. At least this way I get to brag about our trip to the Lakes and keep up with my weekly posts. I’m nice like that…

The role-playing game was something that, up until a few years ago, had been largely impenetrable to me. As much as I loved the idea of creating a character and carving their path through a rich open world, I could never overcome the more mundane aspects of the genre.
The inventory management, the text-heavy menus and the slow rate of progression always proved too big an obstacle for my feeble, impatient brain to overcome. Hardly surprising when you consider that it had predominantly been fed simple platformers and sports games in the past.
The idea of my decisions adversely affecting the game world always intrigued me, but I could never stay interested in an RPG long enough to experience those moments for myself. Fortunately, Bethesda, whether consciously or not, remedied this by forcing the player to make such a decision during the early stages of one of their huge open world RPGs.
That RPG was Fallout 3 and it gave me my first taste of true consequence.
